Brilliant work Craig. Luxon is providing a superb real-time lesson in systems dynamics, particularly with regard to what happens when you completely ignore each and every feedback coming from the system. It is starting to feel like crashing the economy is his government’s strategy. What a mess, a completely self-inflicted mess. I’m well beyond anger now. It’s just one long depressing story after another, and it show no signs of stopping. So very bloody sad. 😔

So at best it is just more Spin, or probably and more accurately Lies. Until the media actually start doing their job people ( stupid people really ) will believe this kaka.

Utopia is good TV and it keeps reminding me in an amusing sort of way what an absolute shit show this NActNZF CoC is as if I didn't need reminding from following the news each day.

Very helpful post, Craig. I really appreciate your strong factual basis. This is a lamentable government but I fear we have a lamentable opposition too since we’re not hearing this type of analysis from them.

That is a very fair fear Glen. I haven’t heard anything scintillating from the left yet, apart from an attempt at some fresh thinking by the Greens - thank you Chlöe - which was ripped to shreds by everyone, including Hipkins, who offered no solutions of his own.

Literally doing this type of holding to account every single day - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BWsFZkrSNM

But never makes the news.

This government are nothing but con people, unfortunately the media are on their side.

😱Another non-announcement in that it has nothing of substance for NOW & includes currently unfunded work that a future govt may choose not to fund (including this lot if they got another crack as they will have to continue the cut cut cut strategy because they know nothing else) 🥺 And naturally claiming projects that they had nothing to do with planning or implementing - typical FIGJAM attitude 🤢

Thank you - very informative and concerning! RE: "New Zealand spent an average of 5.8% of gross domestic product (GDP) on infrastructure. The $17.5 billion is around 4.1% of GDP”. Do you know if this figure includes maintenance on existing infrastructure? If it does, then the figure spent on new infrastructure if very low. I wonder what are depreciation rates for infrastructure such as water supply and sanitation and for roads - if it is 3% then as a rough guide does this not imply that 3% of the value of existing infrastructure needs to be spent on maintenance and/or saved for replacement infrastructure? RE: "... we have found more than $23bn in tax cuts over two Budgets" - is there a link to a breakdown of how this figure was calculated?

Thank you for this analysis Craig. Depressing but we need the clarity.
