And a new priority for spending public money is being introduced - increased defence spending i.e. transferring $ to the US military-industrial complex. More important than reducing child poverty or improving pour public health system or taking effective pre-emptive measures against climate breakdown and natural disasters.
Kia ora Craig, your analysis is very easy to understand and thankfully lighthearted in places to relieve the bleakness of it all, thank you. Unfortunately, to me, it felt like the OCR cut translating into interest rate cuts came across on TV like it was a win to the government - urgh, and I am sure homeowners are feeling less stressed, but I didn’t see any real explanation that the OCR cut weakens our dollar, and drives prices up which should have been explained… I feel the government are getting some glory from this when they shouldn’t, and also media are blasting out that farmers are feeling more confident now than they have in 10 years, again the weakened dollar works for them but no clear explanation as to why for the wider public to really understand.
Hi LornaP, saying yes would mean every mainstream media outlet has succumbed to the ‘keep them dumb’ mantra…maybe it is just that the journos that feed into our mainstream news cycle are time poor to do critical analysis or to consult the experts or they aren’t that good at journalism. I notice the credible journos are all doing long form/indepth journalism.
Thank you Craig, your wisdom and sense of humour are appreciated.

Craig - excellent analysis. Thank you.
That was my first thought about the OCR cut too - so they want our dollar to weaken further?
Crazy times in many ways. Thanks for your mahi.
Bleak!

Isnt that point Janine? Keeping the wider public in the dark. Feeding them shit.

Mihi to you and your mahi. I think I’m starting to understand those charts that normally make my eyes cross.
